Moore’s Law is that technology doubles every two years. For example, cell phones went from just calling people (and pretty big in size) to texting, internet, games, cameras, music, clocks and date – all in one phone. (And reasonable size.)
Computers were pretty big and they did not have a lot of options, it was just typing. But now it’s Internet, typing, cameras, Photoshop, Power Point, garage band, graphing, calculators, touch screens, etc. But it’s doubling every two years and it’s gone right past our faces. I think we should be more alert in noticing what is happening (technology wise).
Social impact
Teenagers can do lots of thing now like creating your own blog and editing and creating your own movie clip. Usually only Hollywood movie directors would do that and now we’re doing our own stuff (blogs, movie clips etc.)
TV’s were operated by buttons and knobs on the set and they had a pretty small screen. Also the screens were black and white. Now we have colored flat screens, HD TV’s and remote controls. Also we have game systems such as play station 3’s, X Box 360’s, WII’s and so forth.
The internet has been a big success in America and it all started with AOL. AOL was our first provider and now we have many search engines. I know someone in Washington State who’s job is Ebay. He buys all sorts of things at auctions and sells them on Ebay and provides for his wife and seven children. Without Ebay or the internet, he would not be able to provide for his family of nine in this way.
However, there are some negative aspects such as pornography. It is consuming the internet with it’s pop ups and it’s deceiving website titles.
So, I challenge all of you to study Moore’s Law. It’s a great subject. Won’t it be interesting to see the progression two years from now?
